relativity_thumb.jpgRecently I’ve stumbled across several versions of the lithograph Relativity by M. C. Escher, in which people are walking relative to different directions (different versions of down) in the same room. One of my favorites is the LEGO® sculputure to the right, which was created by Andrew Lipson and Daniel Shiu. (The thumbnail links to a much larger picture and an explanation of how it was created!)

Another fun version is this 30-second video:

There have also been several television and movie appearances: there’s a long list on Wikipedia here, and while most of those aren’t online that I can find you can see a brief appearance in the trailer to The Simpson’s Movie here, and in the final picture of Futurama πk from Math Horizons where it appears as as a potential apartment for Fry and Bender in “I, Roommate” from Season 1 of Futurama (although they don’t rent it because Fry says, “I’m not sure we wanna pay for a dimension we’re not gonna use.”)
